Monograffi Fine Art Galleries ~ Jerry Bywaters
(1906-89) ~ |
|
Jerry Bywaters is generally considered
to be a Regionalist painter and member
of the Dallas Nine. Active in Texas
during the 1930s and 40s, Bywaters
often loaded his paintings with
ambiguity and satire. They also show
the influences of Social Realism and a
smattering of Surrealism. Although
unquestionably connected to
Regionalist sensibilities, a number of
his works exhibit both the ultrasharp
detailing and quirkiness of the Magic
Realist aesthetic. |
